Printable grids, rulers and graph paper

Printable grids, rulers and graph paper could be inexpensive and customizable alternatives to mass produced rulers and graph paper.

We offer some free printable rulers, grids and graph paper as downloadable files in both PostScript (PS) and PDF format. Links to the files are provided in the table below. The files are available under the permissive ISC license. The actual license is included as a comment in the PostScript (source) files. The files could be printed on paper or another media that your printer can support. Typically a laser printer would yield very accurate results, but before printing, you must disable any auto-fit or auto-shrink options, or enable actual-size option in print settings.

The source files have been written directly in PostScript programming language and then converted to PDF with Ghostscript software suite, on a GNU/Linux system. If you would like to modify our source files to suit your specific needs, but you are new to PostScript, then the PostScript Language Tutorial and Cookbook (613KB, zip-file) might be a good place to start. Most of the files are designed to print on A4 (210 x 297 mm) ISO 216 standard paper size media, but it might be also possible to print some of the files on US Letter size paper, which measures 8.5 by 11 inches (215.9 x 279.4 mm), with very little or no modifications.

With regard to embedded systems and electronics, we use paper grids or rulers for photographing, documenting and visual inspection of electronic samples at various stages of design, prototyping, production or field operation, and also for sketching ideas. You could possibly find out many other uses and applications.
